Nawaz Sharif, the three-time former prime minister and PML-N president, on Tuesday praised the federal government and Asim Munir for their role in US–Iran mediation efforts.
Addressing a meeting of the PML-N parliamentary board for Gilgit-Baltistan, alongside Shehbaz Sharif and Ishaq Dar, he said the contributions of Dar and the field marshal were commendable.

Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan’s standing on the diplomatic front has risen significantly.
The country drew global attention after brokering a US–Iran ceasefire just hours before a deadline set by US President Donald Trump was due to expire on April 8.
Earlier this month, President Trump announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran following discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, offering a window for diplomacy.
In a last-minute push, PM Shehbaz had urged Trump to extend the deadline, a request that was accepted, paving the way for negotiations.
Following the ceasefire, Islamabad hosted rare direct talks between US and Iranian officials — their first such engagement in over a decade. While the meeting concluded without a formal agreement to end the conflict, tensions did not immediately escalate. A second round of talks between senior officials from both sides is expected in Islamabad this week.
Addressing a high-level meeting, Nawaz praised the performance of the Punjab government and urged other provinces to follow its example.
He also criticised the PTI-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government over what he described as a poor law and order situation, questioning whether residents there felt any sense of relief.
Highlighting development projects in Gilgit-Baltistan, he said the PML-N had delivered across all sectors and played a key role on every front.
