The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said two India-backed terrorists, including a ring leader, were killed in an operation in Bannu.

  • A ring leader and a suicide bomber were killed during the operation, according to ISPR.
  • The military’s media wing added that timely action helped avert a major catastrophe.

Two terrorists, including a ring leader, were neutralised after security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Monday.

During an intense exchange of fire in Bannu, the security forces killed two terrorists belonging to the Indian-sponsored Fitna-al-Khwarij, including ring leader Waheedullah alias Muktiar and a suicide bomber, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The ISPR said weapons, ammunition, and a suicide jacket were recovered from the killed militants. Waheedullah was on the most-wanted list for his involvement in multiple terrorist activities, including attacks on security forces and civilians. He was also the handler of a suicide bomber responsible for the February 21, 2026 attack in Bannu, in which Gul Faraz was martyred.

The military said the operation avenged the attack, neutralised key perpetrators, and prevented a major tragedy. A follow-up sanitisation operation is ongoing to clear any remaining militants, as counter-terrorism efforts under “Azm-e-Istehkam” continue.

The statement also noted a rise in cross-border terrorism since 2021, with Pakistan previously launching operations against Afghan Taliban-linked militants and reporting casualties, injuries, and destruction of militant infrastructure amid ongoing border tensions and failed diplomatic talks.
